Boone County Fair

The fair came to Columbia like a whirlwind leaving only a memory of the funnel cake and night rides on the Ferris wheel behind.

Yes, for an evening, all of the best of the fair were offered, problems were forgotten and big teddy bears were won for significant others. Pig races and tigers were among the many attractions offering activities for the entire family.

No big teddy bear for me, but I love the real animals that unfortunately live behind bars, yet get their fill of feed:

The rides are great too and only the slightest bit sketchy.

Then to my absolute favorite attraction and why I went back to Columbia for the fair:

The Demolition Derby

It started with Car Soccer, which not a success due to the ball weighing 500 pounds. Fail.

However, when the derby started, the excitement began. The engines roared and the cars started crashing into one another. In the first two heats, the only female drivers won. Power to the lady drivers!

It’s a sign of a bad economy when there are few entries. It’s a shame, but it does take money to buy a car and to soup it up. I really enjoyed the people who go out of their way to build a car all for the glory of winning and celebrating the Boone County Fair.

Until next year!
