The Regeneration of Travel is a documentary and immersive web series that follows diverse storytellers on regenerative trips that change the travelers and destinations for the better. To spotlight historically under-represented voices, Marriott Bonvoy and WP Creative Group launched a national search, selecting diverse storytellers to plan adventures that authentically immersed them in local communities. The Washington Post’s storytelling technology brought their stories to life. Jaylyn Gough, a Navajo photographer, reconnected with her roots and shared how to travel respectfully in the Southwest’s sacred lands in a digital experience with 360° and documentary video and drone footage. Jeff Jenkins, a plus-size Black man, worked alongside locals to restore Florida’s coral reefs in a digital experience with underwater videography. Time spent on the web series exceeded internal and industry benchmarks, and a study found that, after viewing the content, 86% of people felt inspired to travel again.
