Events, meetups and more

As a recent transplant to New York, the fun hasn’t worn off yet. I doubt that gleam will ever wear off. There is just so much to do and be a part of here.

Times Square

Being here on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 was surreal. I felt like I had to commemorate or remember it in some way. I attended a free screening of the movie 25th Hour followed by a panel with Edward Norton, Spike Lee and Philip Seymour Hoffman. While the film doesn’t directly relate to the attacks on September 11, it does deal with a lot of dark themes and was one of the first films to shoot in New York after 9/11. See the film if you haven’t yet.

I’ve spent some time window shopping as well as a shopping party. I went to Fashion Night Out where a ton of stores hosted late night parties with free drinks and live music, djs or other fun activities (Chanel gave away free manicures).

Last Saturday, I went on a LitCrawl, where there were all types of events including existential trivia and literary Jeopardy. Our team was selected to go head to head with the writers in Jeopardy… we lost against the writers but won trivia.

I hit up a Online News Association panel discussion on Social TV. It’s where the future is for sure, and I’m going to look for more opportunities to get involved and learn as much as I can about it.

This weekend was equally packed, but I was armed with my camera:

I stumbled upon a free dance performance in Bryant Park.

My super talented friend Ann Driscoll played a show at the Rockwood Bar in Lower East Side. I met Ann my freshman year before she went to go be awesome at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. She’s gearing up to tour Europe with her new band ECHOREV. Check them out!

And hats off to another literary event:

The Community Bookstore in Park Slope was hosting a 40th Anniversary party complete with readings (above, in a nearby church) AND free wine and aps to follow.

New York offers an array of amazing experiences. They are really just mine for the taking. What do you recommend doing in New York?
