Aerobics. In Spanish.

Spanish Aerobics. This might not sound like a good idea, or at the very least, it sounds like an embarrassing one. It is embarrassing (at least initially it was), but I need to make a fool of myself every day or I am not expanding my horizons. Being comfortable means I am not growing. Imagine how I felt walking into my first aerobics class with all the directions called out in Spanish. Very challenging. In addition, my first class was a dance aerobics class Batuka. In Batuka, the class reviews dances they’ve been learning since September and learns new ones. I tried to listen to the directions, but mostly I just followed the instructor Kiko.

I have to mention Kiko is the resident athletic instructor for all the sports of Jerez. He is the same instructor for tennis. I think he also does volleyball. Sports in Jerez and Kiko are synonymous.

So while the aerobics is probably not an intense calorie burner (enough to burn off all the jamón I love to eat), it is at least something fun to do in the evenings to meet people … or at least give a commiserating smile to the person trying to follow the moves next to me. It is three times a week for 12 euros a month. Making a fool of myself is such a bargain.
