Occupy Wall Street

Last Saturday, there was a massive group of people participating in Occupy Wall Street who marched over the Brooklyn Bridge as part of the “We are 99%” solidarity march. The police arrested 700 marchers on the Brooklyn Bridge who walked in the streets rather than on the sidewalk. I didn’t even get on the bridge to take photos because the police had already blocked it off by the time I got there.

These dedicated individuals are camping in Zuccotti Park in Wall Street to protest big banks, bankers, corruption and greed. They’ve been camping out at the Park since September 17.

The group gathered at a park near the Brooklyn Bridge.

There were several speakers including this man, a veteran:

The group repeats what the speaker says since they don’t use microphones to avoid noise violations.

From the website, the group identifies themselves as those from every faction:

“We are unions, students, teachers, veterans, first responders, families, the unemployed and underemployed. We are all races, sexes and creeds. We are the majority. We are the 99 percent. And we will no longer be silent.”

Occupy Wall Street continues to stay at Liberty Square and now similiar demonstrations are popping up across the country.

If you have the chance to attend a demonstration or visit Liberty Square, I highly recommend you do. You can get a sense for what is going on without even getting arrested.
